Making Typography Work for You
The right typography can make your text not only legible but also visually appealing.
- Limit Your Fonts: Stick to two or three fonts at most. A common practice is to use one font for headlines and another for body text.
- Pairing Fonts: When combining fonts, aim for contrast. A classic pairing is a serif font (with small lines attached to the characters) for body text and a sans-serif font (without those lines) for headlines.
- Kerning, Tracking, and Leading:
- Kerning: The space between individual letters. Adjusting this can improve readability, especially in logos and headlines.
- Tracking: The overall spacing of a group of letters.
- Leading: The vertical space between lines of text. Increasing leading can make paragraphs easier to read.
